MEDITATION 101
Did you know meditation can:
-
Decrease respiratory rate.
-
Lead to a deeper level of relaxation.
-
Bring high blood pressure to normal.
-
Decrease muscle tension (any pain due to tension) and headaches.
-
Increase serotonin production which influences mood and behavior. (Low levels of serotonin are associated with depression, obesity, insomnia and headaches).
Learn how to meditate to relieve stress, feel refreshed, alleviate some health problems and have peace within you. A group will be forming soon. If you are interested, please sign up on the church bulletin board in the Auditorium. |

Personal Note from Rev. Elder Diane Fisher
Dear Friends,
Before I ever became the Region 5 Elder, I decided to pray the prayer of Jabez daily for a year. A line in the prayer says to "increase my territory," and I had no idea what that would mean for me. In retrospect, maybe I should have been a tad more specific. Over the last few months, with the Eastern European trip, General Conference and the 2008 budget and work plan prep, I have realized just how essential having the "right people on the bus," or the best staff team working together, can be. I believe the staff team of Region 5 includes the "right people," as you will see over the next few months.
Many of you are aware that Christy Ebner has changed jobs and is now working half-time with Joshua Love and half-time for the denomination conference planning team. I want to thank Christy for her time with Region 5 and wish her well in her new positions.
It is with great enthusiasm and pleasure that I share with you the hiring of Jason O'Neill as the new Executive Assistant for Region 5. Jason comes to us from Portland, Oregon, and he will be residing in New York City. He will be in Boston when I am not traveling, and the rest of the time he will work from his home in New York. If you were at the General Conference Awards Ceremony, you would have seen him performing.
Jason has extensive experience as an executive assistant and as a coordinator of personnel. His MCC background includes membership and music ministry at MCC Portland, Exodus MCC in Abilene (where he also served on the board), and Cathedral of Hope when it was still with MCC. He is extremely proficient with the MS Office applications and publishing software. He is energetic and passionate about MCC and brings to the position a deeply-rooted faith and a delightful sense of humor.
Jason will be in touch with each church over the next six weeks to ensure that all information we have on file is current. Jason has been working with me since August 1 and has already been hard at work learning the intricacies of MCC paperwork. He spent two days in Florida with Connie Meadows training (thank you, Connie) and the rest of the time learning how to coordinate my travel, understanding the complexities of our region, and transferring innumerable files to his computer. He is scheduled to arrive in New York this Sunday.
Welcome to Region 5, Jason!
God Bless,
Rev. Elder Diane Fisher | |

THOUGHT FOR THE WEEK
Heavenly Parent, help us remember that the jerk who cut us off in traffic last night is a single mother who worked nine hours that day and is rushing home to cook dinner, help with homework, do the laundry and spend a few precious moments with her children. Help us to remember that the pierced, tattooed, disinterested young man who can't make change correctly is a worried 19-year-old college student, balancing his apprehension over final exams with his fear of not getting his student loans for next semester. Remind us that the scary looking bum, begging for money in the same spot every day (who really ought to get a job!) is a slave to addictions that we can only imagine in our worst nightmares. Help us to remember that the old couple walking annoyingly slow through the store aisles and blocking our shopping progress are savoring this moment, knowing that, based on the biopsy report she got back last week, this will be the last year that they go shopping together . God, remind us each day that, of all the gifts you give us, the greatest gift is love. It is not enough to share that love with those we hold dear. Open our hearts not to just those who are close to us, but to all humanity. Let us be slow to judge and quick to forgive, and help us show patience, empathy and love.
Amen.
FOR A BLESSING, GO TO ...
